Uninvited Guests

raccoons

Every year we get a rash of complaints about the pitter-patter of tiny paws scurrying about in the attic (or walls).  It’s not unusual to have squirrels, possums, raccoons, and rats burrow into crawl spaces or attics to find a warm nesting place.  Let’s face it, “critters” carry disease, and a homeowner or investor should never try to rid their property of them by themselves.  Professional exterminators or wildlife companies should be your first call.

Rodents and animals can do a lot of damage to your home by chewing wood, electrical wires, water lines and drywall, as well as the potential for fires.  They carry diseases such as endemic typhus, ratbite fever, and bubonic plague.

Our furry friends can squeeze through very small openings on your home and can chew through just about any material on the exterior of your home. Rats mate every three weeks and at three weeks old the babies mate so you could only imagine how quickly a rodent infestation could get out of hand.

When it comes to keeping your home free from unwanted invaders, the issue often comes from the rules of nature itself – the food chain.  Dangerous wildlife, such as snakes, raccoons, possums, and squirrels, are often tempted to visit your home or property looking to enjoy a rodent feast.

Every year check your property for ingress and egress points and make those repairs.  Don’t leave stacks of wood on the ground or next to a property because that’s a natural breeding ground for uninvited guests.  Have pest control inspections performed at least annually.
